My Two Favorite Marriage Books

When people are having problems in their lives they often turn to their friends or to the psychologists. I never felt comfortable sharing personal information with strangers (even if they are professionals) and I always felt bad sharing my problems with my friends as if they didn’t have enough problems of their own. Therefore I always turned to books. These are my two absolute favorite marriage books and I think that whether or not you are having problems in your marriage, you have to read them.

The first book is called Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus by John Gray. I read this book a few years before I got married and it changed not only my views towards men, but views towards me as well.

American society is concentrating on being politically correct so much, that it became inappropriate to admit that men and women are indeed different and if we admit these differences, we will be much happier as a whole.

The book is written in a very vivid clear language and is a pleasure to read. It gave me answers to questions I’ve puzzled about for a long time.

John Gray does stereotype a bit, which many people will probably hate, but for the most part the book contains many observations with are quite accurate.

I gave this book for my friends to read and all of them enjoyed it as much as I did. You can get a used copy of it on Amazon for several bucks if not less. If you feel that you are stuck and can’t understand your spouse anymore, give John Gray a chance to help you out.

My second favorite marriage book is called Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. The idea of the book is very simple, so simple that you start thinking that it can’t be this way, but the more you analyze your and your loved ones lives, you realize that Chapman was pretty darn accurate. While John Gray’s book helped me understand the opposite sex better, Chapman’s book gave me an insight on all sorts of relationships in my life. It helped me understand my spouse better and since both of us speak different love languages (you have to read the book to understand what I am talking about), it helped our marriage quite a bit.

Even if you hate reading, I strongly believe that everyone must know what is written in these books. You can get a CD copy of both books and listen to them in the car if you wish.

There are plenty of other marriage books which I enjoyed, but these were certainly my favorite.
